Prof. Dr. Singgih Tri Sulistiyono, M. Hum. lahir di Blora pada 26 Juni 1964. Setelah menamatkan studi di Jurusan Sejarah Fakultas Sastra Universitas Diponegoro pada 1987, ia menjadi staf pengajar di Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, IKIP Veteran Jawa Tengah Semarang hingga 1989. Pada 1989 selanjutnya ia menjadi staf pengajar di almamaternya yaitu Jurusan Sejarah, Fakultas Sastra (saat ini Fakultas Ilmu Budaya/FIB) Universitas Diponegoro hingga saat ini. Dari 1991 hingga 1994 ia melanjutnya studi di Program Studi Sejarah, Program Pascasarjana, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Selanjutnya selama 1998 hingga 2003 ia menyelesaikan pendidikan doktor pada Jurusan Sejarah, Fakultas Sastra, Universitas Leiden, Negeri Belanda. Sejak 2008 ia menjadi guru besar di bidang Sejarah Maritim dan Sejarah Asia Tenggara pada Departemen Sejarah, FIB, Universitas Diponegoro.
Sejak 1999 hingga 2004, Singgih Tri Sulistiyono mendapat amanah untuk menjadi Wakil Direktur Pusat Studi Sejarah dan Budaya Maritim Universitas Diponegoro. Selanjutnya sejak 2004 hingga 2007, ia diangkat sebagai Ketua Jurusan Sejarah FIB Universitas Diponegoro. Sejak 2005 hingga sekarang, ia menjabat sebagai Sekretaris Pusat Studi Asia pada institusi yang sama. Di samping itu sejak 2008 hingga 2011 ia menjadi Ketua Program Studi S2 Sejarah FIB Universitas Diponegoro. Pengalaman sebagai Wakil Dekan Bidang Kerjasama FIB Universitas Diponegoro dilaluinya sejak 2011 hingga 2014 kemudian dilanjutkan sebagai Wakil Dekan Bidang Akademik dari 2015 hingga 2018. Selanjutnya sejak 2021 ia diangkat sebagai Ketua Program Studi S2 dan S3 Sejarah FIB Universitas Diponegoro. Dalam bidang akademik, sejak April hingga October 2007 ia juga memiliki pengalaman mengikuti program Visiting Associate Professor pada Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Nagoya University, Jepang. Selanjutnya, ia menjadi Scientific Advisor of the Museum Exhibition: “Indonesia: Kingdom of the Sea” at La Boverie Museum, Belgium pada 2018. Sejak November 2018 hingga January 2019 ia menjadi Visiting Professor pada National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Selain itu sejak 2014 hingga kini ia juga dipercaya sebagai salah satu Member of Editorial Board pada Journal of Marine and Island Cultures, Korea.
